In Our Hands

In our rapidly changing world, the imperative of protecting and nurturing the environment cannot be emphasized enough. An effective approach towards achieving this goal involves actively involving the community in adopting eco-conscious lifestyles. Community engagement assumes a pivotal role in enhancing awareness about environmental concerns and promoting sustainable behaviors. This can be accomplished through educational initiatives like workshops and programs. By conducting enlightening sessions on the significance of recycling, minimizing plastic usage, and conserving energy, communities can equip individuals with the knowledge necessary to embrace eco-friendly choices. These educational efforts, conducted in diverse settings such as schools, community centers, and workplaces, serve as catalysts, instilling a sense of responsibility and motivating people to integrate environmentally sustainable habits into their daily routines.

Moreover, community-driven projects like clean-up campaigns and tree-planting endeavors instill a sense of pride and ownership among residents. Actively participating in cleaning their localities, parks, and beaches fosters a deepened connection between individuals and their surroundings. Additionally, planting trees not only aids in combating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide but also enhances the visual appeal of the community. By engaging residents in these practical activities, communities nurture a spirit of unity and shared accountability, reinforcing the notion that each person contributes significantly to preserving the environment.
Furthermore, promoting sustainable practices within local businesses and encouraging their adoption of eco-friendly policies can yield substantial results. Community members can actively support environmentally responsible businesses, creating a demand for sustainable products and services in the market. This increased demand, in turn, motivates more businesses to embrace environmentally conscious practices, establishing a positive cycle of environmental awareness and action. Community-led initiatives can extend to the creation of community gardens and composting programs, promoting organic farming and curbing food waste.

Through collective support for these initiatives, communities can make a substantial impact on environmental conservation for future generations. In conclusion, involving the community in leading environmentally aware lives stands as a fundamental necessity for the well-being of our planet. By emphasizing education, hands-on engagement, and the backing of eco-conscious businesses, communities pave the way for a sustainable future. Fostering a sense of collective responsibility and encouraging united action, individuals can create a meaningful and lasting impact, ensuring the thriving of our environment for generations to come.

Words Shall Be Intertwined With Action

 Dear Mr. Marcos

I extend my congratulations on your victory in the elections, making you the 17th President of the Philippines. The majority of our fellow Filipinos have entrusted you with the mandate to lead our nation. To be honest, I did not support your candidacy. My hope rested with another leader, but your win did not surprise me. Despite my reservations, I witnessed democracy in action as many of my friends and family fervently believed in your vision despite the controversies associated with your name. The divisive nature of the election saddened me deeply. Despite this, I respect the collective decision made by our people. Your campaign emphasized unity, yet during the elections, I saw division among friends and families. Hurtful words and accusations flew on social media due to differing political beliefs. I do not intend to condemn you. I recognize my own imperfections and believe it's not my place to judge. I am committed to honoring and submitting to authorities, even when I disagree with them. My purpose in writing to you is to express my concerns and hopes for our country.

As you take the oath as President, please remember the more than thirty million people who supported you, believing in your call for unity. I watched as millions of Filipinos patiently exercised their right to vote, enduring long queues, extreme heat, and health risks due to the pandemic. Please do not disappoint them. Stay true to your promises. Although I do not fully comprehend your platforms and agenda, I pray that you communicate your plans clearly. Listen to the concerns of our fellow countrymen and address the questions that weigh on our minds. There are accusations of tax evasion and theft against you. I hope you can refute these claims. I urge you to embody integrity and honesty, making wise decisions with a clear conscience.

Your family's name has been a topic of national conversation, particularly due to Martial Law. I hope you won't rewrite history in favor of your family but instead rectify past wrongs and restore your family's reputation. Let your agenda benefit all those who placed their trust in you. Many call for remembrance and justice for the atrocities committed during your father’s rule.

I implore you to listen to the stories of those who suffered and demonstrate repentance and humility in your leadership. Your victory has instilled hopelessness in some. I appeal to you to dispel this hopelessness through your leadership, rekindling Filipino pride and inspiring the next generation to fight for their future. Show overseas Filipinos that our nation is worth returning to. Though I did not support you, I acknowledge your position as the mandated leader, and I submit to your authority. I am aware that, like your predecessors, you will make mistakes and disappoint. However, my hope does not rest in you. I find peace in the knowledge that God, who is sovereign over the Philippines, guides our nation's destiny. I urge you to seek His guidance as you lead our country. President Marcos, the nation's eyes are upon you. You will be held accountable for your actions and decisions. Remember that divine grace will sustain you. This opportunity is a gift from God; do not squander it. Let your love for our nation, not personal interests, drive your leadership.

Sincerely,

Raven Angela

Bravery Over Fear

The Philippines is renowned for its toughness. One of the nations most susceptible to climatic disasters worldwide is the Philippines. In this archipelagic nation, there are typically 21 tropical cyclones of varied intensities each year. The expense of disasters to this nation places a tremendous strain on national, local, and household budgets as well as on the security and well-being of its citizens. The social compact between government, public institutions, and the populace is shattered. The impoverished and most vulnerable people are frequently impacted hardest by local governments and communities, who bear the burden of this. The disproportionate effects of these lengthy global crises are hurting chances for long term economic growth, contributing to an increase in poverty and inequality.

These devastating typhoons highlight the necessity of a strong disaster response and sustainable recovery in the Philippines for its future growth against a backdrop of uncertainty and insecurity. Typhoons, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions are only a few examples of the unavoidable natural disasters, yet the high death toll and significant economic effect can be reduced. What would it take to provide greater resilience in the face of these persistent dangers throughout rebuilding efforts? The Philippines has achieved tremendous strides in climate action and disaster risk reduction, and now seeks to increase response and
outcome resilience. Risk-informed planning and development leverages the use of real-time data and fast evolving digital, mobile and satellite technologies that must link to provide accurate information, early warning, and risk-informed protocols and regulations. These include decisions on location of settlements, industries, city centers; spatial development and safety protocols for buildings, for cities; and sustainability measures for infrastructure that limits damage. This is rebuilding for resilience that saves billions of dollars in losses and saves lives and livelihoods. The utilization of real time data and rapidly developing digital, mobile, and satellite technologies that must connect to deliver accurate information, early warning, and risk-informed protocols and regulations is a key component of risk-informed planning and development. These considerations include where to locate towns, businesses, and urban cores; how to improve the built environment; how to keep cities safe; and how to establish resilient infrastructure. Rebuilding for resilience in this way prevents damages in the billions of dollars and spares people's lives and means of subsistence.

Making sure that the money supports this high value offer of investing in resilience and a more sustainable recovery is everyone's responsibility. By cooperating to achieve a shared goal, public and private capital can be combined and directed in these directions, lowering the cost of borrowing and leveraging more. Every second of inaction, or worse yet, bad action, increases the losses and costs to an unaffordable level.

Just

A field where these people need to be all-rounders; they are a teacher, a parent, a best friend, a counselor and many more. They learn and they teach, we learn and they teach. Some underestimate teachers, they say "they just talk and explain" without even thinking that teaching is not as easy as they think. Teaching is not as easy as the word 'teach', it needs patience and understanding. How about the sacrifices and learnings to become the teacher that everyone expects?

Back when I was still in elementary, my teachers always tell me that their job consists of many works, they don't just TEACH. They work like a company employer, papers, reports, presentation, exams, seminars and many more. They don't just simply sit, stand, analyze, read, learn, then teach. As a student that is aware with almost everything that is going on inside or outside the life of school, thinking about the process that teachers  need to undergo to get their positions and learnings to the next level, all I can say is I appreciate the small or big gestures they do to their students. Sometimes even if there are disrespectful students, they still keep their heads up even if it is a hurtful gesture towards them. Don't we think it is unfair that some treat them badly even if they are just doing their job as teachers? Teachers deserve love and respect, like a normal person, like a family. They are basically our family too, they are our parent, they are our protectors.

Cherish the moments you and your teachers share, because one day you'll look back and in that exact time, you wouldn't regret being happy. A genuine teacher deserves students who knows how to appreciate and be grateful. I hope these people are aware with their worth, that they help the youth, that they inspire a lot of little kids, that they make their students love and appreciate the life they have.

Happy Teacher's Day and god bless you!
