Words Shall Be Intertwined With Action

 Dear Mr. Marcos

I extend my congratulations on your victory in the elections, making you the 17th President of the Philippines. The majority of our fellow Filipinos have entrusted you with the mandate to lead our nation. To be honest, I did not support your candidacy. My hope rested with another leader, but your win did not surprise me. Despite my reservations, I witnessed democracy in action as many of my friends and family fervently believed in your vision despite the controversies associated with your name. The divisive nature of the election saddened me deeply. Despite this, I respect the collective decision made by our people. Your campaign emphasized unity, yet during the elections, I saw division among friends and families. Hurtful words and accusations flew on social media due to differing political beliefs. I do not intend to condemn you. I recognize my own imperfections and believe it's not my place to judge. I am committed to honoring and submitting to authorities, even when I disagree with them. My purpose in writing to you is to express my concerns and hopes for our country.

As you take the oath as President, please remember the more than thirty million people who supported you, believing in your call for unity. I watched as millions of Filipinos patiently exercised their right to vote, enduring long queues, extreme heat, and health risks due to the pandemic. Please do not disappoint them. Stay true to your promises. Although I do not fully comprehend your platforms and agenda, I pray that you communicate your plans clearly. Listen to the concerns of our fellow countrymen and address the questions that weigh on our minds. There are accusations of tax evasion and theft against you. I hope you can refute these claims. I urge you to embody integrity and honesty, making wise decisions with a clear conscience.

Your family's name has been a topic of national conversation, particularly due to Martial Law. I hope you won't rewrite history in favor of your family but instead rectify past wrongs and restore your family's reputation. Let your agenda benefit all those who placed their trust in you. Many call for remembrance and justice for the atrocities committed during your father’s rule.

I implore you to listen to the stories of those who suffered and demonstrate repentance and humility in your leadership. Your victory has instilled hopelessness in some. I appeal to you to dispel this hopelessness through your leadership, rekindling Filipino pride and inspiring the next generation to fight for their future. Show overseas Filipinos that our nation is worth returning to. Though I did not support you, I acknowledge your position as the mandated leader, and I submit to your authority. I am aware that, like your predecessors, you will make mistakes and disappoint. However, my hope does not rest in you. I find peace in the knowledge that God, who is sovereign over the Philippines, guides our nation's destiny. I urge you to seek His guidance as you lead our country. President Marcos, the nation's eyes are upon you. You will be held accountable for your actions and decisions. Remember that divine grace will sustain you. This opportunity is a gift from God; do not squander it. Let your love for our nation, not personal interests, drive your leadership.

Sincerely,

Raven Angela
